Sold!

We have been very busy over here.  We put our house on the market this spring and buckled in for a wild ride of house showings and house hunting.  When our house sold we still didn't have a contract on a new one so the pressure was on.

Not our ideal situation and stress was high for a while.  Mr. 65th even had a crazy father of the bride moment and wanted to buy our house back when we couldn't find a new one to buy!  But we had to remember why we wanted to sell in the first place, better schools.

After signing a contract on a much larger house, it didn't feel right and wasn't in the neighborhood we really wanted so we got out of it.  We would be buying for location this time around and that is what we did.

As of last Thursday we are the new owners of a cozy 1940 fixer upper in a wonderful neighborhood. Great schools, walk to train and a trendy downtown complete with a vintage movie theater.

The new owners of our house are letting us stay until next week so we have been able to get some work done at the new house before moving in.  I will be back soon with pictures!

  3. Congratulations! I look forward to seeing the new place. I do love your old cottage. Your previous home is the type of thing I like these days, but my kids are grown and out of the house now so smaller suits us better. : )

  4. Congrats - what an exciting time for you guys! It sounds like a great house, neighborhood and town and I smiled at the 'Father of the Bride' reference. I can't wait to see the new house and hope you share some projects along the way. Good luck with the move!

  8. I am delighted to have found your blog . . . we are living very similar lives at the moment. We purchased a fixer-upper in the spring, moved in and have our old home of 33 years on the market. Change is good and we are loving our new place. Lots of work, but that is okay, Rome wasn't built in a day, LOL. We will be so glad when our old house sells, because at the moment we have a mortgage. We haven't had one of those for about 5 years and it is wonderful. I am your newest follower and blogging sister. It will be fun watching what you do with your fixer-upper, as we are working on ours:)
    Have a happy day.

  9. I blogged for quite some time as the Design Apprentice, but haven't for some time, perhaps I should get pick it back up. I have a bit of an ironic story to share! I saw this beautiful home come on the market and immediately felt connected to it, unfortunately my husband and I weren't seriously looking yet. By the time we started our search, that beautiful home had sold. I was so sad!

Shortly after, we discussed turning a home into a craftsman so we googled that idea. The very first result was for this blog- and the home in it was the home that I loved that had sold! I am so happy to have found your blog and am excited to follow your journey.

We've since put an offer on a foreclosure in a surrounding town, and it will need quite a bit of work. Your blog will definitely serve as an inspiration guide. Have a wonderful day! Katie

  15. Looking forward to seeing photos of the new place. I can understand your reservations. It sounds so nice being able to walk to everything you need. You were right in making the new choice because you would have been miserable had you closed the other deal and could not find the place that you eventually fell in love with.

  16. Congratulations on the purchase of your home! Buying and selling a home is very stressful, people often second guess themselves. However, I personally see that when it is all said, and done people usually do end up in the house that meets their needs; even if there are some bumps along the way.
