The Beginning

If you have been reading along for a while you know I've been working with my paint sprayer. I got some painting time in this weekend and you know what? I've got it down my friends. I am excited to be starting something that I love to do, making over vintage and antique furniture.

Here is the dresser I worked on this weekend. It was rough and in need of some love but I liked the shape and size.

My husband picked it up for me after I found it on Craigslist. Am I the only untrusting person who won't go to a strangers house to buy something?

I used white paint again, boring I know, but I do think this dresser looks good in white. It also wanted to be distressed, so I sanded the edges. Next time I will be ready to try out some color.

Are you loving the legs?

I also gave the existing pink hardware a makeover. I used two different kinds of spray paint to get the look I wanted.

I used the black chalkboard paint as a base coat and then went back and forth with the metallic until I was happy.

This is the first piece of furniture I bought with the intention to makeover and sell. This is just the beginning...

I'm playing along with the CSI Project this week. Check it out, it's a lot of fun.

  1. Oh I love it, it looks fantastic! I love white, wish that more of my furniture was white.

I too won't go to anyone's house when I find things on Criagslist, or even show my face when we sell something. The hubs does all the leg work, goes to get things, and we take items outside to the driveway prior to people showing up to see our sale goods. It sorta sux that we have to be so suspicious these days, but, better safe than sorry!

  7. Londen are you starting a new business of refurbishing furniture? How cool? do you have a garage or basement you can claim for workspace? I think of doing it but you need space, a truck or SUV at least...I'm staying tuned!

  11. Amy, yes this is the start of my business. I have been painting outside but will have a painting station in my garage. I will have a couple months of downtime in the winter because our winters are so cold. Who knows, maybe I will have a warehouse to work in someday.

  27. Londen, it's beautiful! I love it in the white with the metallic pulls. The white suits this piece well with the French lines to it. You have mastered your sprayer!

  28. I love it! I've been thinking about painting our old dresser so this is great motivation. And you absolutely crack me up- you write the way I think: "the dresser also WANTED to be distressed"... like the furniture is choosing its fate! Too cute. Keep up the great posts! :)

  29. It turned out great! You did a wonderful job. And no I send my husband to pick up my craiglist items too....once he had to travel over an hour and a half (us girls can just never be to careful). But of course it was the perfect item that I needed! :) Hope you are having a great week.

  35. it looks gorgeous.

you are going to start selling furniture??? good for you!

i'm sure you've heard of mybluesofa.com. where you can list pieces for sale. check it out, if you haven't.

your flower garden bouquet is simply stunning. there's something about flowers from your own yard that top any floral designer's work any day. well, at least for me.

take care & have a great weekend.

  36. Londen, Londen, Londen. Are you sure you won't move to Cali? I just want to be neighbors really bad. I want to use your paint sprayer and take your completed projects off your hands and teach you how to sew. And then I want us to start a boutique together. Really bad. Whatdayasay?

This dresser is great! You have definitely perfected your technique, though frankly, I've thought every one of your projects looks perfect. I'm so with you on the craigslist thing. We sold quite a few things on craigslist during a purge phase a while back and I made my husband drive each item to the grocery store parking lot to meet anyone who wanted to look at something. I'm too scared to go pick anything up.

  37. so pretty! i won't go to people's houses alone or same thing with someone coming to mine! good luck selling it!

  38. I have that exact dresser, I think. I'd love to re-do it, but I don't know what to do with the glossy top. If yours had that veneer (that I don't think can be sanded, painted, etc.), what did you do with it?

  39. what a huge improvement! i think you will
    be a prosperous furniture renovator!
