Bedroom Set Makeover Part One

I'm always keeping my eye out for well made furniture in need of a little love. A couple weeks ago I found a bedroom set on Craigslist and crossed my fingers for two days waiting for the lady to call me back. There were a few people interested, but I was the first person to leave a message so I got to see it first. I finished painting three of the five pieces.

All the original hardware was there but one piece was broken on the long dresser. I ended up moving all the hardware down and added two pretty glass pulls from Anthropologie. They have a nice vintage feel.

First I filled the top holes with wood filler, and then I sanded the whole piece down just to get any grime off.

This time I tried putting primer through my paint sprayer and it worked just fine. I did two light coats and sanded in between. I also sanded in between each coat of paint for a smooth finish.

The scalloped mirror is so sweet.

I love the flower detail and now it really pops.

I used a sanding block to distress the edges just a bit.

A sweet couple bought them this weekend for their little girl's room. I'm happy they found a good home.

  2. Londen,
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I LOVE your solution for the missing pull. You are raking in the projects and it sounds like they're selling really fast, too. Lucky you! Are you using a palm sander?

  5. Thanks Stef! I used a palm sander first with medium paper then sanded by hand in between coats with fine. The couple who bought it wanted a dresser I painted a while ago but someone beat them to it, so I didn't have to list this one for sale.

  6. I so want to do some spray painting like you. I have two end tables in my garage waiting, but I'm still deciding what kind of sprayer I want. Should I just jump in?

  7. Pine Tree, if you already have the compressor then you only have to invest in the sprayer. It is time consuming cleaning the gun and getting set up but if you plan on doing more painting in the future, I say go for it!

  8. Great job! These are fantastic pieces of furniture, I love the little flower details too!

I've been using primer in my sprayer for a while now and never had a problem yet! Next up I want to try Varathane in the sprayer and see how that goes.
