A Holiday Tradition

Hello everyone, did you have a nice Thanksgiving? We spent the day at my Mom's house. We enjoyed a delicious dinner and had a lot of fun with family. The day after Thanksgiving is the day we go out looking for the perfect Christmas tree.

Today was the coldest day of the season, needless to say this face didn't stay this happy for very long. We found our tree in record time because of it. It's one of our best ones too.

Our first Christmas together Mr. 65th and I bought a tree from a tree lot; we got a bad one because it shed about a million needles in one day. The next year we went to a tree farm and cut our own tree down; it was so fresh, it lasted longer than the holidays. This is our eighth year getting our tree this way, it's a lot of work but worth it to us. Every year our tree is different and it smells so good!

There is still some debate about which is more "green"....cutting your own or buying fake. If anyone wants more information I can share some pros and cons, just let me know. Oh and yes, needles still drop, but they are cleaned up easily when I vacuum.

Mr. 65th makes sure the tree is well lit; then I take over and decorate it with all the ornaments. We make a great team. ;)

Now we're exhausted and ready for bed...it's been a long day decking the halls. I'll share some pictures with you soon. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. xo

  1. Looks like a blast!

A few years ago, we invested in a really, really nice fake tree -- I'm allergic to the real thing, but our fake fir is so lifelike, I hardly notice the difference. I do sometimes wish we got to experience the fun of cutting down our own, and the smell of pine inundating the house, though. :)

  2. How fun! That tree is beautiful! We have a fake white tree, which I love since all of my decor is light and bright, but every year it is a headache with my cat, who thinks it is his own personal tree to climb and play in!!

  3. We have bought a fresh tree since...forever. If you pay a little extra at a good place and take care of it, it will last...forever!!

Love your sweet pictures and can't wait to see your big guy all dressed up!

  4. I love this time of year and this is my first year writing a blog in blogland during the holidays. Seeing pictures of your hubby carrying the tree made me all excited to start decorating mine. I think I can smell your tree from Calif, Happy weekend,Kathysue

  5. Londen I think your tradition is awesome. I have been toying with the idea of a faux tree because the real ones don't seem to last long...so maybe this is the solution! Can't wait to see your finished tree.

  6. I have always wanted a real tree! My dad is allergic to pine so we never could have a real tree, and now that I have my own I just don't know any different than artificial.

  9. Love a fresh cut tree. We used to go to friends in Ashville NC to cut a tree every year, but now that the girls are older it is really hard to get their schedules together. Can't wait to see what you've been up to.

I can not wait to see how you decorate it! Have a pretty day!

  14. Looks like so much fun! Last year we went with a fake tree and it is just not the same as a beautiful real one like yours! :) Maybe this year....

  15. I love real trees. We went with a faux one this year though as the little one has a tendancy to pick up and eat whatever she finds on the floor, pine needles included. Can't wait to see your tree!

  16. I loooove the scent of real trees! I grew up with one in my parents home, and I still go with my father and brother every year to cut one down! We debated last year and finally settled on getting a fake one for our home - easier with the two dogs and a small space. I'm sure in the future we will have a real one... when we have a larger home! :)

  17. What a great tradition! Your daughter will always remember that as she gets older. Nothing beats the smell of a fresh tree in the house. And I'll take decorating over lighting any day!
